Hydraulic Fracking is the process of injecting high-pressure chemicals into the ground, so as to break up rock layers and release usable natural gas, petroleum, or water (UXL Encyclopedia of Science, 2015). Fracking is a widely controversial topic and supporters claim that it allows for access to natural resources that otherwise aren’t utilizable. The opposing side’s argument is based off environmental stability and human safety. For example, they claim that the high pressure chemicals used to release natural resources contain substances that remain in the ground and can contaminate drinking water and lead to earthquakes (UXL Encyclopedia of Science, 2015). Gas and oil companies claim that their chemicals do not adversely affect the environment and deny opposing claims.
Fracking works by blasting large amounts of sand, water, and other undisclosed chemicals into the ground in order to break through rocks and allow natural gasses to emerge (Kern, 2010). Reports claim that people in close proximity to wastewater wells can and have experienced induced earthquakes. Wastewater wells are located thousands of feet underground and serve the purpose of storing used drilling fluid. These wells can lead to induced earthquakes, which are man-made earthquakes triggered by the disruption of the Earth’s crust, the outermost layer of the planet.
There are countless reports of destruction caused by induced earthquakes, especially in Oklahoma. For example, a town near Perry, Oklahoma experienced a magnitude 4.1 earthquake as a result of the detrimental chemicals located in local wastewater wells underneath the ground, according to United States Geological Survey. Additionally, hydraulic fracturing can contaminate excessive amounts of drinking water for towns, making the supposedly clean water flammable and risking the health of many. The chemicals found in the contaminated drinking water can cause cancer in humans and kill plants and animals. In fact, a 2016 report from the EPA warns that fracking can have devastating effects on the country’s clean drinking water (Harvey, 2016). The documentary, “Gasland,” uncovers the devastating stories of how people’s safety and lives were affected by fracking (Fracking, 2017).
In conclusion, hydraulic fracking adversely affects the environmental stability of both the country and the world as a whole. While one side of the controversial topic claims that fracking is necessary to provide the nation with natural gases and ensures that it become less dependent on other countries, the human safety standpoint ultimately outweighs the political agenda of the federal government. Fracking is detrimental to both our land and people, which are the center of our nation. We cannot afford to sacrifice the safety of citizens for unnecessary resources because, ultimately, when there are no more people to utilize these resources, the fundamental purpose of fracking becomes moot.
It is now 200 days with Trump as our president. Let's review his performance, accomplishments, and failures.
Paris Agreement- He has pulled out of the Paris agreement, which is economically beneficial, however, detrimental to our already declining environment.
Healthcare- President Trump hasn't yet passed any bills.
Business Regulations- The President has lowered business regulations, allowing for the easier production of goods, however, this is negative in the sense that it allows corrupt companies to grow and treat workers unfairly.
Jobs- Over 500,000 jobs have been created and unemployment has declined. Additionally, the stock market is steadily soaring.
Supreme Court- President Trump has nominated Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, which is widely viewed as beneficial.
Immigration- The Department of Homeland Security released a statement demonstrating that illegal immigration has declined by 60% after Trump's inauguration.
As many already know, President Donald Trump signed an order "temporarily" preventing people from the following countries from entering our nation: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
This can turn out both positive and negative. The positive is that the risk of a terrorism threat and/or acts of terror significantly lower. As a population grows, so do risks. Our nation doesn't have the land, money, or stability right now to provide homes to millions of EVEN MORE people.
The negative is that many countries disagree with this plan. This can lead to violence and even wars.
Additionally, Barack Obama enacted a similar law, however, why is it that only this caused an uproar? Obama, in 2011, prohibited Iraqis from entering for six months.
As a foundation that strongly opposes violence, we endorse President Trump's plan. This is simply for the safety of Americans. Violence, through protesting, is also being caused by many of the people that oppose this plan- The same people that wanted to "build bridges."
This week has been a good week. I have gotten into many schools I have applied to and already have a choice selected. Also, I am considering writing another novel.
I am currently in the process of writing my very first novel, "The Teenager's Catastrophe." Thanks to my friends who have been collaborating with me to write the novel, I incorporated lesson-teaching short stories into it. I am looking for people to write the Foreword to my book and I ask that if you have in interest in writing it, please apply through "Careers" under "Getting Started."
Recently, Donald Trump announced that Kellyanne Conway is the next counselor to the President. This is a wise decision, in my opinion, as she is smart, has experience, and can keep Donald under control as president. While I may have my opinions, this is a debated topic by many. According to political expert and advisor of billycariello.com, Dr. Alina Dervisevic, P.h.D, "Kellyanne is dumber than Trump. Good luck to America. Remember, this is your fault if the country goes bad because you elected these people. This was a very stupid decision for the country." Dervisevic also claims, "Kellyanne does not have any real plans, similar to Trump, and gets stuck in problems she fails at getting out of." Feel free to comment on this hot topic below.
Electors officially casted their votes. Many went against the people of their states, but the majoroty didn't, despite Hillary's desperate attempts. A new hope for our country has arrived!
Recently, Michelle Obama told Operah, or at least implied, that Trump was the end of hope for our country. This is just simply wrong. 10 years ago, we had Steve Jobs, Bob Hope, and Johnny Cash. Now we have Obama, no Jobs, no Hope, and no Cash. OBAMA WAS THE END OF HOPE. Also, the strongest point is that Trump hasn't even been our president yet. Can Michelle Obama predict the future? I don't think so.
Today in New York, beautiful white snow fills the yards and sidewalks of countless towns.
